The Tonga Development Bank introduced a Venture Capital Scheme in 1993, but that is now on hold according to ‘Etikeni Samani, a senior assistant manager in human resource development and admini­­­­stration.

Under a Venture Capital Scheme, the TDB becomes an active partner in the business. After it was launched in 1993 five projects took advantage of the scheme. ‘Etikeni said that the scheme was suspended until early this year when there was a new proposal to revive it, but the scheme is currently on hold.
