Lavulavu trial continues in Neiafu [1]

The trial to hear an election petition filed against Hon ‘Etuate Lavulavu for alleged corruption during his 2014 election campaign continued today, 2 December in Neiafu.

The election petition filed by Viliami Uasike Latu represented by William Clive Edwards alleged that Lavulavu had committed corruption and illegal activities including bribery during his campaign for the General Election that was held on November 27, 2014.

A Minister of Tourism and Vava’u No.16 People’s Representative, Lavulavu represented by Sifa Tu’utafaiva denies the allegations.

The trial, which is expected to run until next week, will hear more than 20 witnesses in total from both sides and is presided over by Chief Justice O.G. Paulsen.

The trial has been adjourned twice after it attempted to start on Wednesday, 25 November, before beginning yesterday with the petitioner's witnesses.
