The soft closing of the Tongan Parliament’s 2015 Session has been deferred indefinitely, according to the clerk of the Tongan Parliament, Dr Sione Vikilani.
Sione said that the situation now is that the House will reconvene whenever government has something that has to be approved by the House.
Meanwhile, three petitions have been tabled into parliament.
However, no date has been set for when parliament will meet to deliberate over the petitions, and no date has been set for an official closure of the Tongan Parliament 2015 session.
At the end of the day on Thursday, 22 October, the Speaker, Lord Tu’ivakano announced that the House would reconvene yesterday, 28 October to confirm a soft closing date for the Tonga Parliament 2015 session; and for the House to confirm when its 2016 parliamentary session will be officially opened.
Yesterday the House did not convene.
