HE Huang Huaguang, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, visits ‘Uiha, Ha‘apai.

The Chinese Government will be reconstructing a new $70,000 pa'anga dormitory in Pangai used by students from the outer island of 'Uiha that was badly damaged by Tropical Cyclone Ian in Ha'apai last year.

Chinese Ambassador HE Huang Huaguang visited Ha’apai including ‘Uiha in August and learned about the situation from the local community.

He decided to support the reconstruction of the dormitory which was seriously damaged by the cyclone with only the foundation of the building left, stated the Chinese Embassy in Nuku’alofa.

The dormitory building houses students from 'Uiha who are in Pangai for secondary school. 'Uiha only has a primary school.

The construction is expected to start later this month to be done by December.
