New classrooms for Fakakakai [1]

New classrooms for the students of Fakakakai Government Primary School in Ha’apai were opened on 30 July after schoolrooms were destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Ian in 2014.
The reconstruction project, which included five classrooms, toilet facilities and two staff quarters amounted to $869,290 pa’anga, jointly funded by the New Zealand Government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The students have been using the LDS building as temporary classrooms.
Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva opened the new classroom accompanied by New Zealand High Commissioner, HE Sarah Walsh, with Saia Faletau, ADB Country Representative, and Hon ‘Etuate Lavulavu, Minister for Infrastructure.
Puloka Construction Group Ltd carried out the construction.
