Husband charged with assaulting wife [1]

A man in his 20s has been charged with grievous bodily harm after he allegedly assaulted his wife on Monday, 20 July at Popua. 

The Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Tevita Fifita said today the accused, a Tongan man holding American citizenship, remained in custody.

He will appear at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 July.

The wife also of American citizenship, was allegedly beaten up and stabbed with a table knife during a disagreement at a home in Popua.

She was taken to Vaiola Hospital last night for treatment and was released today.The victim provided her statement to police this afternoon, he said.

 The couple is visiting Tonga from the United States.
