Price of electricity went up on July 1 [1]

The price of electricity went up by 2.96 seniti per KWh through out the Kingdom today, 1 July.

According to a statement from Tonga Power Ltd, the 2.96 seniti hike is due to an increase in the price of imported diesel for June and July.

Prior to this 2.96 seniti rise, the price of electricity since May was 80.15 seniti per KWh.

The price of diesel is set by the Competent Authority, which is under the Minister of Police, Hon. Pohiva Tui’onetoa, but the price of electricity is set by Tonga Power Ltd. and the Tonga Electricity Commission.

Tonga Power Ltd, is a public company responsible for the generation and the distribution of electricity in Tonga.

The Tonga Electricity Commission is headed by a Commissioner, Lord Dalgety
