Fine Titaa appeared in the Nuku'’alofa Supreme court this morning, September 26, charged with manslaughter by negligence following the death of her husband in an accident on By Pass Road, Nuku'alofa last June.

It was alleged that on 25 June 2004, Fine, was the driver of a car that swerved off the road and struck a power pole at By-Pass Road, Nuku'’alofa before smashing through the fence of Paula Helu...’s home crashing into his garage, and killed her husband Jessei Titaa (24), a Cook Islander.

The accused is also charged with reckless driving.

The Crown alleges that the accused was drinking alcohol earlier that day and filed an alternative charge of reckless driving.

The trial by a jury of four men and three women, is presided over by Chief Justice Robin Webster. The legal counsel for the Crown is Sione Sisifa, and Laki Niu represents the defendant.

The Crown will call eight witnesses during the four days trial.
