Scholarships worth $10,475 pa’anga were awarded by the Tonga Development Bank this week to cover full tuition fees of 13 students at Montfort Technical Institute and Tupou Tertiary Institute.

This year a total 51 scholarships will be handed out to 10 technical and vocational institutes, under the bank's scholarships awards programme amounting to $30,000 annually.

Lataheanga Kava, the Operations Manager, presented the first scholarships to five students of Tupou Tertiary Institute on Monday, 1 June. Eight students at the Montfort Institute received their scholarships on Tuesday, 2 June.

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and potential to succeed with the schools Principals selecting the students and making recommendations to the bank for awards and funding.
 
The scholarship program has been running since 2003.
