Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Monday, May 25, 2015 - 19:43

The search for fisherman Rev Sioeli Finau (63) continues although there has been no sign of him or his small boat since he went missing 11 days ago when heading out to Malinoa Island.

Tonga Police in Nuku’alofa said today they have alerted the outer islands and have appealed to fishermen to keep a look out when they go out fishing.

The Coastal Radio center in Fiji has also been notified to continue monitoring their coastal area for any possible signs of the missing man.

On Saturday, 16 May an aerial search by a French Air Force aircraft from Noumea was carried out but did not spot him.

Tonga Navy’s VOEA Savea patrol boat also searched the area including a ground search on Malinoa Island but nothing was found.

Rev. Finau from Nukunuku headed out from Patangata to Malinoa Island, off Tongatapu on Monday, 11 May. He left on a 25ft green and grey coloured boat with 40-horsepower engine.

On 13 May he had not returned and was reported missing by his family to police.
