Sione ‘Afa Teisina (28) has been charged with a second count of unlawfully imprisoning his 20-year-old partner at a plantation in Puke, Tongatapu.

Police arrested him on Friday night, 1 May for the alleged crime after he had been on the run for more than two-months since the incident occurred on 27 February this year.

The accused from Navutoka has been further detained in custody after appearing at the Magistrate’s Court in Nuku’alofa on Monday, 4 May.

“We have charged him with unlawful imprisonment in addition to the first count of causing grievous bodily harm. More charges are expected to be laid as he had other arrest warrants from Vava’u and Mu’a in Tongatapu,” said police today.

He is alleged to have unlawfully imprisoned his partner inside a hut where they lived at the plantation. The victim from Vaini was allegedly assaulted before being tied-up and locked inside the hut. She was left without food and water for several days, but managed to escape and got help.
