Suspect arrested for unlawful imprisonment [1]

Sione ‘Afa Teisina (28) who had been on the run for two-months was arrested by police on Friday night, 1 May for the alleged unlawful imprisonment of his partner at a plantation in Puke, Tongatapu.
Police in Nuku’alofa said today the accused was arrested at around 10:00pm in Mata-ki-‘Eua after they received a tip-off from a member of the public.
He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody to appear at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate’s Court today.
“We expect to lay further charges and will ask the court to further detain him in custody to complete our work,” the Police stated.
The accused from Navutoka had previous arrest warrants issued against him in Vava’u and Mu’a in Tongatapu for allegation of assaults on women.
On 27 February this year, Teisina is alleged to have unlawfully imprisoned his 20-year old partner inside a hut where they lived in at the plantation.
The victim from Vaini was allegedly assaulted before being tied-up and locked inside the hut. She was left without food and water for several days while he allegedly disappeared.
Police said she managed to escape and got help. She was admitted for medical treatment at Vaiola Hospital before being released.
