Two policemen on trial for manslaughter [1]

The trial of two policemen charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of ‘Inoke Pepa (20) in Vaini in 2012 began this week, at the Nuku’alofa Supreme Court.

Samisoni Taufa (32) and Sosefo Masalu (27) are each charged with manslaughter with an alternative count of grievous bodily harm.

The Crown alleged that an assault on the victim by the two police officers led to the young man's death early on 16 November 2012 at Vaini. The victim had sustained serious head injuries.

The Crown represented by the Director of Public Prosecutions ‘Aminiasi Kefu will call a total of 13 witnesses. Sifa Tu'utafaiva represented the accused.

The trial before Mr Justice Cato will continue next week.
