Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, March 18, 2015 - 16:11.  Updated on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 - 16:29.

The Police in Nuku’alofa are looking for a 28-year-old man from Navutoka, who is alleged to have unlawfully imprisoned his partner inside a hut at a plantation in Puke, Tongatapu.

The victim was 20-year-old woman from Vaini who was allegedly assaulted on 27 February before being tied-up and locked inside the hut where they lived. She was left without food and water for several days while the partner disappeared.

She then managed to escape and got help and was admitted to Vaiola Hospital for medical treatment.

Police said this afternoon that no further details could be released at this stage as they were tracking down the alleged perpetrator who had not been seen since the day of the incident.

The victim was not able to give her statement to police until Monday, 16 March, because of the vulnerable state she was in after the ordeal.
