Tonga's Public Servants' Association this afternoon rejected most of the new offer made by the Princess Regent, Princess Pilolevu, this morning, September 1 at Pangai Si'i.
While full details of the government's offer have not yet been released by the government's Information Unit the Princess Regent said at Pangai Si'i that government would give the 60, 70, and 80% salary increase that was demanded by the Public Servants. The rise was to be paid to the salaries of strikers who would return to work today, and those who are currently at work. This salary increase was to apply only over an interim period of time while negotiations were continuing
The PSA Secretary, Vuna Fa'otusia said that following a general meeting at 2 pm, today, it was decided for the PSA to reject the 60, 70, and 80% interim salary rise and for the striking Civil Servants not to return to work. But Vuna said they have agreed for the negotiations to continue.
