Two Fijian nationals have been arrested by police for an attempted robbery at a Chinese shop in Pahu on Friday night, February 20.

Assistant Police Commander Tevita Fifita said today they first arrested a 35-year-old man on the night of the robbery, while the other who fled was a 32-year-old, arrested last night in Nuku’alofa.

He said the incident took place at around 8-9pm at the Chinese shop on By-Pass road in Pahu.

They allegedly entered the shop armed with knives and were confronted by four Chinese people inside the shop. A Chinese woman cashier sustained minor injury to one her fingers after one of the accused tried to get the cash from her with the knife.

They were not able to steal anything because the four people inside the shop stopped them. They fled the shop and were chased by one of the Chinese men who yelled out and some men who were watching television at a near by home came out and caught the accused.

Tevita said they brought the accused back to the shop where the police arrested him.

The two accused have been charged with attempted robbery will remain in custody to appear at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate’s Court on Friday, February 27.
