Armed robbers arrested in Vava’u [1]

Four men were arrested on Monday, February 16 for an armed robbery at a Chinese Shop on Tu’i Road in Neiafu, after they fled with more than $5,000 cash.
Police said today the accused, who remain in custody, have been charged each with conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license and robbery.
One of them was armed with a rifle when they entered the Chinese shop and held the shopkeeper at gunpoint on the night of February 12 before fleeing with over $5,000 cash, phone cards and cartons of cigars.
The accused who are between 17 to 26 years old are from Koloa and Okoa in Vava’u and Tokomololo in Tongatapu.
The shopkeeper was not injured during the robbery.
