'Eua steps up strike action [1]

Over 100 public civil servants sailed from ‘Eua this morning and marched from the Tu'imatamoana Wharf to join the civil service strike at Pangai Si'i, in Nuku‘alofa.
The strikers from ‘Eua began their journey from ‘Ohonua yesterday at 5:00 pm arrived at Nuku‘alofa at 10:00 am to march along Vuna Road to Pangai in solidarity with civil servants strikers in Tongatapu.
‘Asisi Po'uhila, the chairman of ‘Eua striking civil servants committee who led the group, said this showed that ‘Eua was stepping up their action and support in regards to the ongoing strike.
They were welcomed by cheering and clapping from the crowd at Pangai Si'i, and Finau Tutone, the Chairman of the Interim Committee of Dissatisfied Civil Servants, deeply thanked them for travelling to Nuku‘alofa and acknowledged that they were now recorded in the history book of Tonga.
The ‘Eua strikers who brought over 10 bags of tapioca, and a dozen yams, also displayed and presented to the interim committee tapa cloths and mats.
They then put on quite a good show by dancing to music played by the DJ and also performed a traditional tau'olunga.
The strikers who paid their own travel expenses to Nuku‘alofa will return to ‘Ohonua tomorrow, August 27, with expenses paid by Tongatapu‘s Interim Committee.
