A 46-year-old man of Asian origin is recovering at Vaiola Hospital after he was found injured on a road in Veitongo on Saturday morning, 22 November.

Police today said they suspected he was kidnapped from his vegetable farm in Longolongo.

The victim, whose name has not been released, lives at Lady Fusitu’a’s residence in Kolofo’ou.

He is reported to have left home for his vegetable farm at around 4:00am on Saturday. At 8:00am, police in Nuku’alofa received a call from Lady Fusitu’a reporting him missing. When police arrived at the area they found a pair of his jandals and torch.

As they searched the area, the Fire Department reported putting out a burning vehicle in Nualei, which police confirmed belonged to the victim. Shortly after, the police received a report from the hospital of an Asian man rushed in with injuries that included bruises on his face.

“He was brought to the hospital by a Tongan man who claimed to have found him lying injured on the side of the road in Veitongo. We are appealing to the public for any information because we believe this was a kidnapping case,” said police.
