Sione Finau Sisifa (39) has been appointed as the new Solicitor General serving for three-years at the Attorney General's office in Nuku'alofa.

The Public Service Commission made the decision effective from November 4 when he signed the contract.

The Solicitor General’s responsibility is to ensure the effective and appropriate governance across Tonga’s legislative and legal frameworks and for providing Government with high quality legal advice and representation on all matters of law. He will also be responsible for maintaining the administrative, operational and broader functions and activities of the Office of the Attorney General.

Sione began his public service career in 2000 as an Assistant Crown Counsel in the then Crown Law Department. He was promoted to Crown Counsel in March 2005 and as Assistant Senior Crown Counsel in June 2007. He has been the Acting Solicitor General since April this year.

He is a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of Fiji, Law Practitioner and Commission for Oaths in the Supreme Court of Tonga and a member of the Tonga Law Society, Pacific Islands Maritime Law Association, Pacific Prosecutors Association and Executive Council of the Tonga Law Society.

He holds a Bachelor of Law and a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of the South Pacific in Fiji.
