Le’o ‘o Tonga 88.1 FM is the newest radio station in Nuku’alofa which began last week operated by Taimi Media Network in Kolotmotu'a.

He said the radio which covers Tongatapu and 'Eua is intended to become a mainstream radio station for information, news and talk back programs.

“Our news bulletin is only in Tongan now but we will have English news too. Another program running is the talatalanoa or talk back on national issues from politics, social, community or development. I also host interviews of candidates who are intending to run in the upcoming General Election if they come and pay for time on air,” he said.

Kalafi said setting up the radio station had been his plan for quite some time but it is only now they had the equipment to start.

“We are in the process of recruiting more staff to help our existing team of three,” he said. “We are excited to extend to radio.”

Taimi Network operates the weekly Taimi ‘o Tonga newspaper.
