Pangai Si'i, one of the last open green spaces in central Nuku'alofa, is earmarked as the construction site for government offices.

The construction of a Government Office Building dubbed the 'St George Palace' project, funded with a multi-million pa'anga grant from the Chinese Government, is expected to start this year in the Nuku'alofa Central Business District, at Pangai Si'i.

Mr Xu Zhiguang the First Secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Nuku’alofa said today that the new three-storey building would accommodate the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.

He said the agreement for the construction was signed between Tonga and China in early 2012, and the bidding is now open to Chinese qualified companies.
