Singing crowd gathering outside Tongan Court [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

A new message displayed by strikers gathering outside Parliament House, across the road from Pangai Si'i.

A crowd gathers this morning in front of Parliament and the courts, while police cordon off Pangai Si'i.

A growing crowd, that was shut out of Pangai Si'i this morning, is gathering outside Tonga's parliament and court house, and singing loudly while they await a decision expected this afternoon from Tonga's Chief Justice - that may or may not allow them to return to their rallying point.

Overnight police dismantled the remaining tents on Pangai Si'i and this morning stopped the striking public servants from entering the Mala'e that has been at the centre of the strike which started on July 22.

The Public Servants Association, MC, Fotu Fisi'iahi called for calm and asked the strikers to stay on the opposite side of the road and not enter Pangai Si'i, while they await a Supreme Court decision on their application for an injunction against a government order to remove them.

There was heavy traffic congestion in central Nuku'alofa this morning because the police had closed off a section of Hala Lelue from the turn off to Talamahu Market to the Hala Vuna intersection, and it therefore took Chief Justice Robin Webster and Justice Ford some time to get to the court house.

But before noon, the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Manako Vi, informed the leaders of the PSA that the earliest time for a decision would be 2 pm because the judges wanted to talk with the government's legal advisers, the Solicitor General and the Minister of Justice.

Meanwhile, the crowd is growing is size and the singing getting louder.
