Ban Ki-moon becomes a Samoan Chief [1]

Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General was made a Samoan Chief yesterday, 31 August.
The Secretary-General is in Samoa for the Small Islands Developing States Conference (SIDS), which started today.
After accepting a coconut shell of Kava that was presented to him during a title bestowment ceremony at the village of Si'upapa Sale'apaga, Ban Ki-moon, in Samoan said “Fa’afetai, fa’afetai tele lava,” before he drank the Kava.
Tapua Ban Ki-moon told the gathering, which included members of the international media and many delegates for the SIDS conference, that it was an honour to be given the title and he would do his best to "uphold the dignity and honour" of the Tupua title.
The Samoan Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, who was also present at the ceremony, alluded that the Tupua title is "the princely title of Sale'apaga."
Tupua Ban Ki-moon gifted $10,000 Tala to his village.
