Car crash cuts power to Eastern Tongatapu [1]

A 29-year-old man has been charged with reckless driving after allegedly crashing his vehicle into a high voltage power pole in Tatakamotonga on Sunday, 20 July.

The Police said today the accident caused power outage for villages on the eastern district (Hahake) around 5:30-6:00pm.

The accused from Lapaha is alleged to have been speeding when his vehicle crashed into the power pole.

He has been released from Vaiola Hospital after sustaining minor injuries.

Tonga Power Ltd. reported that the accident took out its high voltage power pole and lines situated on the main road in Tatakamotonga.

The Vaini feeder in the Tonga power station, dedicated to Vaini and Hahake, was out temporarily as a result of this major high voltage fault. Some areas were restored within one-hour while other areas such as Hoi to Niutoua took five hours to restore, TPL stated.
