Senior Police Constable dies of fish poisoning [1]

A Senior Police Constable ‘Amanaki Kisina (40) died in Neiafu, Vava’u from what is believed to be fish poisoning in the early morning of Saturday, May 24.

Police in Nuku’alofa said today that the deceased from Leimatu’a died from poisoning after eating raw a fish called “rusty jobfish” or “palu polosi”.

The officer was working on shift on the evening of Friday, May 23 when he and four other officers ate the raw fish. By early Saturday morning officer Kisina felt sick and was taken to the hospital for a check-up but he returned back to work. He fell ill and was again rushed to the hospital and died shortly afte rat 3:00am that morning.

Police reported that one of the other officers was also admitted to the hospital but he was now doing well and back at work. The other three officers were fine.

It is understood that Police are investigating the source of the fish supply, and it is not yet confirmed whether it came from a local or a foreign vessel.
