The trial of five policemen charged with manslaughter in relation to death of New Zealand police officer Kali Fungavaka, is now set to be held on April 8 to May 9, 2014.
The trial was initially set to start on March 31 for Inspector Kelepi Hala’ufia and Police Constables Fatai Faletau, Salesi Maile, Tevita Vakalahi and Manu Tu‘ivai before Mr. Justice Charles Cato.
The Crown Prosecutor Sione Sisifa said the trial was adjourned because the Court of Appeal session begins in the same week and counsel will be engaged.
A separate trial for the civilian accused Semisi Kalisitiane Manu will be held after the policemen’s trial.
Kali died while under police custody, in August 2012 in Nuku'alofa.
