I-Kiribati man dies in fatal crash at Kolonga [1]

A Kiribati national died on Monday, October 28 after the car he was a passenger in allegedly crashed into an electric pole at Kolonga on eastern Tongatapu.
The Deputy Police Commissioner Lau’aitu Tupouniua said a male driver aged about 43 years of Kolonga was charged with three counts of manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license.
She said the car travelled on a southerly direction and up on a slope at Kolonga where the car ran into an electric pole causing the crash.
“The victim lived in Tonga but we can't confirm his age at this stage,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
Suicide
At the same time, police reported that a 36-year-old man from Tungua committed suicide in Ha’apai, on October 28.
Police stated circumstances confirmed it was a suicide and it was the sixth suicide reported this year.
