Hundreds fill Taufa'ahau Road for 'Happy Tonga' party [1]

A Heilala Festival "Happy Tonga" block party brought hundreds of people onto the streets in central Nuku'alofa on Friday, July 24 as part of the celebration leading up to HM King George Tupou V's birthday on August 1.
Organised by the Heilala Organising Committee, the block party an annual fixture in the Heilala celebrations was held on Taufa'ahu Road from the Nuku'alofa Hotel to the Post Office intersection, bringing the twon to life with people, music and food stalls.
Tongans came together with the Fijians, Australians, Japanese and the Chinese communities to celebrate the 'Happy Tonga' theme. Each community had a booth displaying traditional food and other aspects of their culture.
The block party was also an opportunity for talented young dancers and singers to showcase their moves and voices on the street with some performing on stage.
The Heilala Village tents were also filled with hundreds of spectators who enjoyed cultural performances and singing.
Festivities continue this week with the Miss Heilala Pageant followed by a Float parade and Military Parade over the weekend.
