Japan's new Ambassador to Tonga [1]

HE Mr Yukio Numata (63) is Japan's new Ambassador to Tonga, taking up his post at the Embassy of Japan in Nuku'alofa on Wednesday, 6 May.
During his foreign service career he has worked with Japan's International Cooperation Bureau and served previously in Brazil, and Portugal.
Prior to Tonga, he was a Senior Coordinator/Second Country Assistance Planning Division of the International Cooperation Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from December 2013.
In 2011, he was Consul-General at Japan’s Consulate-General in Belem, Brazil.
He was the Senior Coordinator Development Assistance/Policy Coordination Division and Senior Coordinator/Loan Aid Division, at the International Cooperation Bureau from 2007-09.
He had served as a Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in Portugal in 1999.
A graduate of the University of Tokyo for Foreign Studies with a BA in Foreign Studies majoring in Portugal and Brazil, he entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975.
He is Japan's third resident Ambassador to Tonga replacing Dr Kazuchika Hamuro.
