Tonga Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC)



The Tonga Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC) is a member of the Pacific Games Council (PGC), Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). TASANOC is the only sporting body that has the mandate to send athletes, teams and officials to the Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games.

An exciting and challenging opportunity now exists for a well-qualified and experienced individual to join the TASANOC as its Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Secretary General – CEO will implement strategic goals by providing overall direction, leadership, operational and organizational management of TASANOC. Reporting to the President and the Executive Board, the role’s primary purpose is to lead and steer TASANOC to achieve its strategic objectives as guided by the TASANOC Strategic Plan. In addition, she/he is an ex-officio member of the Executive Board and shall be designated as the Secretary General without voting rights to meet IOC requirements. This position will be responsible for successfully driving the following critical outcomes.

+ Development of sports and sporting excellence in Tonga

  • Supporting National Federations developing and improving athletes and team support
  • Strengthen stakeholders partnerships and collaboration including
  • Enhancing good governance in sport

+ Effective management and leadership of TASANOC ensuring:

  • Robust coordination in the development of Strategic Plan along with the preparation and implementation of operational plans
  • Budgets are properly developed, approved and managed
  • Risk mitigation plans are properly developed and implemented with stakeholders
  • Effective project management and implementation against targets and objectives.

+ Robust Human Capital Plans are properly developed and managed including the review of the management structure and systems, performance reviews, develop and enhance staff and volunteers.

+ Ensure strategic communication plans are developed, implemented and oversight provided.

+ Timely completion and circulation of reporting requirements including the Annual Report, monitoring and reporting on Strategic Plans and provision of advice to the Board + Manage commercial viability including securing funding for / from investments, the public and private sectors.

+ Support and facilitate meetings including the TASNOC Annual General Assemblies, Executive Board, Commissions and other meetings.

The person we seek must have significant and successful professional experience with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in similar senior managerial position with a degree in Business Administration, Operations and or Sports management or related discipline. Tertiary qualification in MOSO (Managing Olympic Sports Organization) or MEMOS (Executive Masters in Sports Organization Management) is desirable. The applicant must possess the following:

  • Proven leadership and people management skills including staff and volunteers
  • Financial management skills with a demonstrated ability in budget preparation and management, financial analysis and report preparation
  • Excellent report preparation, writing skills and proficient in written and oral English
  • An understanding of the Olympic Movement and the functional roles of its key components as well as understanding of the autonomy sport, the sporting environment in the Kingdom and partner development would be an advantage.
