The Tonga Australia Support Platform (TASP) is a mechanism which will support the work of the Australian Government in meeting development objectives in Tonga. It is a multi-sector development facility that uses multiple modalities including development program management, technical advisory support, grants management, subcontracting and supports Australian Government policy development and dialogue to deliver the desired outcomes.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a member of the TASP team, the Strategic Communications Coordinator will:
Lead, with support from the TASP Lead, the development of TASP’s Marketing and Communications Strategy, Implementation, and Stakeholder Engagement, and ensure M&E is linked with strategic communications and work with the TASP and pillar teams to deliver outcomes. The Strategic Communications Coordinator will have outstanding report writing skills, be able to formulate analytical insights and trends and experience managing a portfolio of design resources to support multi-media communications.
Develop creative ways to deliver key messages utilising media communication, client and stakeholder interviews, video filming, photography, graphic design and web management as required. Lead project
communications, contributing to TASP’s performance and knowledge management while also working with TASP teams to ensure effective communication strategies to support the GoT and DFAT, including DFAT’s public diplomacy objectives.
Lead the development of the social media and Public Diplomacy report and assist with other reports on an as-needs basis.
Share best practice and lessons learned from delivery of other Tonga and programs globally with the MERLA Hub, TASP team, GoT and DFAT, including through provision of technical advice on strategic communications, communications coordination and administration, and information exchange.
Support learning and knowledge exchange activities (e.g. workshops, information management systems) as required.
Additional tasks as allocated by the TASP Team Leader and MERLA Hub Lead.
The Strategic Communications Coordinator will lead the implementation of TASP’s Communications Strategy and provide communications advice on an as-needs basis. The Strategic Communications Coordinator will report to the TASP Team Leader and MERLA Hub Lead. The reporting requirements for the Strategic Communications Coordinator will be subject to DFAT approval.
Tertiary qualifications in Communications or relevant field
- A high standard of written and spoken English
- A high standard of written and spoken Tongan
- An understanding of the use of Monitoring and Evaluation data for communications purposes
- An ability to manage partnerships with key stakeholders to develop communications products
- An ability to deal with politically and culturally sensitive issues
- Developing communications strategies
- Preparing communications and publicity material including material for publication
- Report writing
- Editing and formatting complex documents
- Working with relevant software
- Working with all forms of media, (including social media)
- Experience working with a donor in a development context, or similar, will be highly regarded
