The Pacific-China Friendship Association (PCFA) was established in Nuku’alofa, Kingdom of Tonga on 26 October 2016, for the purpose of promoting friendship, cooperation and understanding between the peoples of the Pacific and China.
The Princess Royal, Her Royal Highness, Princess Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita, Patron of PCFA and President of Tonga China Friendship Association (founding member of PCFA), and Madame Li Xiaolin, President of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) in 2016, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for friendly cooperation as part of the establishment of the PCFA.
PCFA comprises 16 member countries, including the Kingdom of Tonga (represented by Tonga- China Friendship Association), Australia, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, French Polynesia, Hawaii, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Wallis & Futuna.
In a statement, the Tonga-China Friendship Association Incorporated, said: “Following the tragic aftermath of the Volcanic Eruptions of Hunga Tonga – Hunga Ha’apai and the subsequent Tsunami, which caused far reaching damage across the islands of Tonga, led the Fiji-China Friendship Association to carrying out one of PCFA’s most fundamental aims which is to promote closer cooperation among members of PCFA in its pursuit of developing stronger and more resilient Pacific communities. The selfless actions of Fiji-China Friendship Association towards it sister member of Tonga-China Friendship Association, is a testament to the purpose of PCFA.”
“As such, the President of Tonga-China Friendship Association, and the Patron of the Pacific-China Friendship Association, wish to convey deepest gratitude and humble appreciation to the President of Fiji-China Friendship Association, Ms Fang Fang Wu-Jamnadas, along with Ms Bernadette Rounds Ganilau, Ms Grace Chai Chai and all FCFA Members, for their unfailing assistance in donating a full container of essential goods and foods for the Members of TCFA in Tonga.”
