The Tonga Government has allocated $1 million to finance a new Agricultural Export Marketing Fund aimed at providing short term loans to exporters who buy exportable produce from farmers. Three agricultural produce exporting companies have been selected to access the funds.

The Seabourn Quest from the United States visited Nuku'alofa on February 6 with 336 passengers and 347 crew. It departed for Fiji yesterday afternoon at 5pm after a tsunami watch issued for Tonga and warning for Fiji was cancelled.

A United Nations review conducted on the state of human rights in Tonga was completed on 25 January 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland, when Tonga's Minister for Internal Affairs, Lord Vaea was questioned over women’s rights, police violence, establishing a national human rights institution, the living conditions of persons with disabilities and the reasons for Tonga's failure to accede to numerous core international human rights instruments.

The International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA launched the world's first Global Renewable Energy Atlas on 13 January at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirate UAE, to coincide with the opening of IRENA's two-days Third Assembly 13-14 January.
