A Tropical Cyclone Alert remains in force for Tonga today, as Tropical Depression (TD 04F) in the Western Pacific, moving toward Fiji and Tonga, is expected to bring strong gale force winds to the Niuas starting tomorrow morning, with storm force winds over southern Tonga during the weekend. Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre issued a weather warning at 6:00pm Thursday 16 January 2020.

A Tropical Cyclone Alert for the Niuas was issued by the Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warnings Centre at 2:00pm this afternoon as an active tropical disturbance moves south towards Fiji and Tongan waters. Gales are forecast for the Niuas tonight; with strong wind warnings for Vava'u, Ha'apai, Tongatapu and 'Eua land areas and coastal waters.

A strong wind warning with heavy rain advisory is in force for Tongatapu, Vava’u, Ha’apai and ‘Eua as Tropical Depression 15F was located about 890km west-northwest of Nuku’alofa this morning. Near its centre the depression is forecasted to, probably, increase to Tropical Cyclone strength in the next 18-24 hours. Tonga’s Fua’amotu Weather Forecasting Centre at 2:30pm today issued Tropical Cyclone Advisory One for Tonga.
