Neiafu, Vava‘u
A 42-feet aluminium yacht was towed into Neiafu port last week after it was caught on a reef about four miles off Hunga Island, Vava‘u. A Canadian couple on board were rescued.

Tonga's government celebrated the gift of a new MA60 aircraft from China at a handover ceremony attended by King Tupou VI at the Fua'amotu Domestic Airport on Saturday July 6. Deputy Prime Minister Samiu Vaipulu, who sought the aircraft from China, said in an emotional speech that it was the first of its type in the region, but it was sad that it had not been accepted by the United States and New Zealand.

Foa, Ha'apai
A baby whale, found stranded on the beach at Nuku Namu Island in Ha'apai on Friday, September 14, was rescued and released into the high tide after an eight-hour effort by the owners and guests at the Matafonua Lodge and local Tongans.
