A Tupakapakanava or traditional torch lighting ceremony was held along the Nuku'alofa foreshore yesterday evening, July 30, after sunset when students lit bark torches creating a line of fire around the coastline and rings of fire around the small islets visible from the capitalThe ceremony is a traditional honour accorded to the Royal Family and followed the installation of Tonga's King George Tupou V yesterday. The traditional installation of the king took place today with a Taumafa Kava ceremony on Pangai Lahi next to the Royal Palace in Nuku'alofa. 'Amelia Latuniua Taumoepeau-Tupou (62) passed away at the Vaiola Hospital, in Nuku'alofa yesterday, August 12, after an illness. A sister of the Queen Mother, her death comes less than three weeks after the loss of another sister Kalolaine Lataifalefehi Fakafanua on July 26.
