A Lifetime Achievement Award will be posthumously presented to Polynesia’s great composer, the late Queen Sālote Tupou lll, at tonight’s Pacific Music Awards to be held at the Sir Woolf Fisher Arena Vodafone Events Centre, in Manukau City, New Zealand.

One of Tonga’s greatest musicians, Bill Sevesi (born Wilfred Jeffs), passed away yesterday April 23. He was aged 92. Bill Sevesi was an early pioneer of modern Pacific Island Music and is credited with popularising and introducing the Hawaiian guitar key to Tonga and other Pacific Islands. Bill also introduced Tongan music to the airwaves for the first time. He was inducted in the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

Hundreds of people packed Pangai Lahi on Sunday night, July 18 to enjoy a night of classy choral singing by 17 youth choirs from high schools and various church denominations in Tongatapu, and also from Fiji and New Zealand.
