Thirty-five royal Tongan marines are currently in participating in the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise, Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC 2016), in Hawaii. On their first day of training last Thursday June 30, the Tongan marines conducted Urban operations with Australian, New Zealand and U.S troops at Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii.

The 7th Contingent of His Majesty’s Armed Forces (Royal Tongan Marines) returned from Afghanistan last week, after completing their six-months of duty at Camp Bastion and Leatherneck in Afghanistan.

Tonga’s army has entered a formal partnership program with the National Guard of Nevada that will strengthen their military cooperation in a new working relationship. The partnership declaration was signed in Nuku'alofa on April 11, by Brigadier General Tau'aika 'Uta'atu of His Majesty's Armed Forces and Brigadier General William Burks of the National Guard of the State of Nevada, USA.

The Australian Services Rugby Union (ASRU) team is expected to arrive to Tonga on November 2 for an eleven day goodwill tour. The ASRU team is a representative rugby team for the Australian Defence Force selecting its players from personnel of the Australian Army, Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force.
