The Court of Appeal has sent Penisimani Angilau to jail, for causing serious bodily harm to another man, when he hit him with a piece of timber fracturing his left hand at a petrol station in Vaini in 2021. The Appeal Court quashed Hon. Mr Justice Niu’s suspended sentence.

An appeal by an heir trying to claim allotments in Pea was dismissed by Tonga's Court of Appeal, who found that due to his failure to apply for it within the legal time-frame, the allotments were no longer available for inheritance when it reverted back to the estate holder.

The first sitting of Tonga’s Court of Appeal which ended on Wednesday, April 9, in Nuku'alofa delivered judgments, that included reducing a 16-years sentence imposed on a man who sharpened his knife and stabbed his sleeping wife 23 times. The court replaced it with 10-years imprisonment with the final two-years suspended.
