Sione Lauaki was buried at the Waikumete Cemetery in West Auckland on Saturday February 18 after a an emotional funeral service attended by over 1000 mourners, who included Sir Graham Henry, and All Blacks players Jerome Kaino and Liam Messam.

Wales Rugby (WRU) has announced that it will not play in Tonga this year because of doubts that the pitch at Teufaiva Stadium would be upgraded in time. The WRU stated that arrangements were being made to relocate the Wales-Tonga test to another country.

The Tonga government yesterday rushed a Bill through parliament to attract investment in Tonga, as government prepares to host the 2019 Pacific Games. Under the Act large tourism investors may apply for tax exemption on millions of pa'anga of their income - if they can win the approval of the Minister of Revenue and Customs and consent of Cabinet, while sponsors who make donations similarly may apply for large income tax exemptions. His former club, The Waikato Chiefs, stated on Twitter "Rest in peace Sione, always a Chief...our thoughts and prayers are with Sione’s family and friends and with the entire Chiefs whanau as today we have lost a brother."

The Tonga Under 20s team have scored a big win over the Cook Islands in their first game of the U20 Oceania Rugby Championship in Suva, Fiji. Tonga U20s dominated the game, scoring eight tries to beat the Cook Islands U20s 50 – 12. The Cook Islanders managed two tries.
