Fua'amotu, Tonga
Tropical Cyclone Victor (cat. 2) is forecast to bring damaging gale force winds of 65-75kph, squally seas and thunderstorms this evening to southern Tongan islands, according to the latest Tropical Cyclone Advisory #12 issued by the Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre at 1:30pm Friday 22 January 2016. The centre of the cyclone is expected to lie about 150km southeast of 'Eua at 7:00pm.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga
Tongans are advised to conserve water, as the Meteorological Service warns the outlook for Tonga over the next three to six months is for below average rainfall, as a result of El Niño conditions continuing into the upcoming "wet season". Drought warnings are in place for Niuafo'ou and Niuatoputapu.

Tonga's Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukālala urged Pacific Ministers for Meteorology to find ways to advance climate and weather services in our region and to build resilience to high impact weather events on our small islands, when he opened the First Pacific Ministerial Meeting on Meteorology today 24 July in Nuku'alofa.
