Soloa Fisi, from Patangata was named Business Woman of the Year at the 8th SPBD Annual Business Woman of the Year Awards, in Nuku‘alofa today, 9 November. Guest of Honour, Lord Fakafanua, with SPBD founder and President Greg Casagrande, presented the awards to three finalists who had started businesses cooking for a school canteen, growing foodcrops, and handicrafts making. Over US$100M in micro loans has been handed out to tens of thousands of low-Income women across the Pacific Islands, including Tonga, by the South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) since its launch in 2000. Last Friday, 8 December, it gave out its US$100 millionth loan to entrepreneur Vilisi Tabua, a fish dealer at the Suva Public Market in Fiji.
