Tonga will host the Oceania Judo Championships for the first time over two days on 28 – 29 April at the ‘Atele Indoor Stadium. Around 131 athletes from 12 countries, including four from Tonga, have registered to take part in the competition and will look to improve their world ranking points.

The outcome of the Oceania Judo Union Championship and the Oceania Judo Union Congress that was held in Cairns, Australia at the end of April raised the profile of Tonga and its sports people, said Lennie Niit, the new president of the Oceania Judo Union and one of the vice presidents of the International Judo Federation.
