The election of Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Poasi Tei, as Tongatapu No. 6 People’s Representative to the Legislative Assembly has been declared void by the Supreme Court, after he was found to have committed three acts of bribery, in the lead up to the November 2021 General Election. He is the fourth Member of Parliament and third Cabinet Minister whose election has been voided.

Three Tongan women panelists from different sectors agreed that "integrity", "good moral character" and "following the rule of law" were basic qualities expected in public life and leadership positions. "If a government is not prepared to follow the law then we will go back to the jungle and that's not my expectation of a government or a candidate or an MP," said 'Alisi Taumoepeau.

The Tongan Commoners tomorrow, November 25 will be given the opportunity in Tonga's Parliamentary Election to choose their 17 representatives to enter parliament. This is the first step in setting up a new government. The representatives that they elect tomorrow will become the decision makers in a second round of voting, which is the election of a Prime Minister to lead the country during the next four years.
