Tonga's Appeal Court has dismissed an appeal by Paula Piveni Piukala and another, on the dismissal of their application for judicial review against a decision by the Supervisor of Elections, in regards to Lord Nuku’s election as a Noble's Represenatative. However, clause 65 of the constitution is concerned only with the qualification of Representatives of the People and does not apply to Nobles’ Representatives.

Mele Teusivi 'Amanaki was convicted of failing to deliver a signed statement of her election expenses and was ordered to pay $200 fine within a month or face one-month imprisonment, after the Crown successfully appealed against her earlier discharge without conviction by the Magistrate's Court.

Three Tongan Cabinet Ministers have lost their appeals against court decisions that declared their election results void. Eight judgments from a Special Court of Appeal session, held last month, were released late this afternoon in Nuku'alofa. The Appeal Court said, “If there is a lesson to be learned, candidates for an election should be astute not to make any gifts within three-months of an election...Rather they should withhold their largesse until after the election.” Some of the other appeals were also dismissed.

The election of Tatafu Moeaki as the Tongatapu No. 4 People’s Representative to the Legislative Assembly was declared void by a Supreme Court judge today, who found that he committed bribery on two occasions, in the lead-up to the November 2021 General Election. Moeaki, the current Minister of Finance, is the second Cabinet Minister the court has found to have committed the offence of bribery under the Electoral Act.

By Elections should be held whenever there is a vacancy in Parliament, said the Electoral Commissioner Pita Vuki today. Two People's Representatives have had their elections declared void, after they were found to have committed bribery, at the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa. There are other election petitions pending.

The election of Dr Pohiva Tu’i'onetoa as the Tongatapu No.10 People’s Representative to the Legislative Assembly has been declared void by a Supreme Court judge, who this afternoon found that the former Prime Minister committed the offence of bribery on one occasion, in the lead up to the November 2021 General Election.

Tonga Broadcom Ltd. was fined $1,500 pa’anga to be paid within 60 days after being convicted of broadcasting an interview of the Deputy Prime Minister Semisi Sika on the polling day of Tonga's General Election in 2017. The judge found that the broadcast was a clear expression of support for the candidate.
