Queensland Tongans raise $13,000 for Ha'apai [1]

Queensland’s Tongan Community has raised $13,000 (AUD) to aid cyclone relief in Ha‘apai.
The funds were donated at a concert hosted by “Nofo ‘a Kainga” (Queensland Tonga Council) two weeks ago in Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane, brought together families, Tongan Church denominations, Kava Clubs and Tongan ex-student associations. The concert featured music from DJ Vava’u (Leni Lolo) and the Brisbane Tongan Brass Band.
President of Nofo ‘a Kainga, Reverend Sione Maile Molitika has thanked the Tongan community for their support, stating that the “the programme was a huge success”.
Nofo ‘a Kainga or the Queensland Tonga Council is a Tongan association that advocates the rights and needs of Tongans in Queensland.
According to the Australian 2011 census, 25,096 Australian residents have Tongan ancestry. In Queensland there were 1,596 Tongan-born residents.
