Thirty young girls aged 11-19 years from Tongatapu villages have taken part in a three-day “Eliminating Violence against Girls” Camp 2014.
The camp was held at Liku’alofa Resort, Kanokupolu, last week from January 30– February 1 was hosted by Talitha. The camp was funded by United Nations Women and Australian Aid.
The girls learned how to prevent violence and protect themselves from violence in all its forms. Various speakers highlighted the need to report violence, and the young women learned about human biology and the camp boosted their self-esteem. Speakers included officers from the Ministry of Police’s Domestic Unit and the Tonga Family Health Association.
Talitha was established in 2009 and is devoted to elevating young women in Tonga.
