An electoral and civic education programme held in Nuku'alofa last week was aimed at boosting the institutional capacity of Tonga to undertake elections.
The Tongan Electoral Commission and Australian Electoral Commissions conducted a workshop from January 14-16, training 19 workshop participants on civic education and voter information.
The workshop called the “Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections (BRIDGE)” is part of the Tongan and Australian electoral commission’s goal to develop electoral and civic education programs in Tonga.
The workshop is part of the Australian Government funded Tongan Governance Strengthening Program.
The 19 workshop participants came from government ministries, civil societies, women’s and youth groups and the United Nation’s Development Program.
