The ‘Ikale Tahi will play the third and last game of their European tour this week, on November 22 in Cardiff, Wales.
Tonga has so far lost to Romania (19 – 18) and France (38 – 18). Wales is the last chance for the ‘Ikale Tahi to prevent a winless tour.
The Welsh have stated full confidence in defeating Tonga, announcing a team consisting of only three first-choice players. The six-nation’s champions thrashed a pointless Argentina 40 – 6 only a few days ago.
The last time Tonga played Wales was ten years ago at the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Wales won 27 – 20 in a closely contested match. Both Samoa and Fiji have claimed historic victories over Wales. Tonga, however, has never defeated Wales in its six encounters.
Star-player Sona Taumalolo is unable to play. The prop was handed a four week suspension yesterday at a disciplinary hearing in London, for getting into a fight with French Lock Yoann Maestri in last week’s test match.
